Let Rejection Be Your Greatest Tool!

Rejection is one of those words that we could do without in our vocabulary, especially when applied to the business world. It is human nature to want acceptance. We want to fit in. From the time you started school and met other children, you wanted to fit in, have friends, be one of the crowd. When we didn’t, it hurt like crazy. Rejection sets you on the outside of the inner circle where everything important is happening. Believe me, I know! I have been there.

Just today I experienced rejection. A prospect requested information about our primary business opportunity which is helping hundreds and thousands across the country. I called her back and she asked immediately, “Does it cost money?” Now my answer could have been better, but I only said like 3 words in an answer before she hung up on me. So that is rejection, although it did not hurt me. She saved me time. I had already begun to disqualify her because of her tone of voice and type of question she asked. Not to mention the fact that she hung up on me.

What is your philosophy about rejection?

Fear Of Success and Fear Of Rejection

Our vision and goal is greater than any rejection we can face, which is why we keep going. Take a look at Jesus himself as an example of suffering rejection.

Isa 53:3  “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

I don’t know about you but this is as bad as it can be. When we really consider what he went through, historically, they butchered him. He suffered ultimate rejection. But it never kept him down. That third day, the tombstone flew open and a victorious Christ stepped out in spite of all that they did to him.

I wonder if in our personal lives and our business lives we can allow rejection to fuel our passion to thrive instead of die. So, the lady on the phone rejected me, big deal! The next one might say, “I need what you have!” I’ll be glad I did not give up, because that “I Will” would never be heard if rejection won the fight.

Hey, don’t be afraid to become successful. The more rejections you get the closer you are to your success. The only way to conquer your fear of rejection is to face it. In business, the more calls you make the more you will gain confidence, and the more you will overcome rejection. Why? I think you will understand who is doing the rejection and where it is coming from. You might just find yourself rejecting rejection and not abandoning your purpose.

Let me ask you this question:

“Are You Willing To Submit Yourself To Rejection in Order To Find Your Success?”

Don’t Quit!

  1. Hi Joseph,

First, I really enjoyed reading your post. Your story about the lady that hung up on you brought back memories of a call I had very early on. A lady had called and left me a voice mail asking about what I do. She left her phone number and even a time when she was able to receive my call and speak further.

So, I called at the time she specified and said, “Hello, this is Vincent Parker. Yesterday you left a message on my machine asking for details about…” And she cut in.

And proceeded to curse me out, tell me never to call again and hung up. For a few moments it shook me to the core. Fortunately I immediately recalled someone saying that you should never take it personally and never bring the energy, whether negative or positive, from one call to the next.

So, I picked up the phone and called the next person. However, I am truly grateful for that call, especially it happening so early on. Because the next call was the exact opposite of that call, and the person is still on my team. From her I learned that rejection, no matter how bad, does not determine our success. Fear of rejection can, but rejection in itself cannot. Because we move forward.

Anyway, wanted to share because your story really brought that back to my mind.

Thanks for the post and the inspiring words. Reject rejection! :)

    Hi Vincent,
Thanks for sharing your story too! I like your ending comment, “reject rejection”. So true, only the fear of rejection can stop us, not rejection itself… It is about our desires, vision, and importunity being greater than the obstacles before us.

    God Bless,
    Joe
